The Ferrari 308 is already an icon, but this one here is even more special. This 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS was used in the pilot episode of Magnum, PI, the 1980s crime drama starring Tom Selleck, and you can buy it.
Barrett-Jackson is auctioning off the Ferrari at its Palm Beach event next month. The car has documentation, including letters from a Ferrari historian and F-Register, which claims the car appeared in the show’s first season. The car even features seat modifications to accommodate Selleck’s tall stature.
Under the hood is a 2.9-liter quad-cam V8 engine with four Webber carburetors, producing 230 horsepower. It pairs with a five-speed gated manual transmission, and it comes with a limited-slip differential and four-wheel disc brakes, which hide behind 15.4-inch Cromodora wheels.
The Ferrari features a Rosso Corsa red exterior and the Creama interior. The car has air conditioning, power windows, pop-up headlights, and a removable roof. It was an icon of the show.
The car will roll across the auction block in mid-April with no reserve. Another Ferrari 308 GTS from the show recently sold for just over $100,000.
Motor1’s Take: It might not have a Ferrari V12, but Magnum, PI and Selleck made the 308 GTS a cool. It remains one 40 years later, and you actually buy it—mustache not included.
