2024 Maserati GranTurismo recalled for displaying wrong fuel level

The redesigned 2024 Maserati GranTurismo is being recalled because gasoline models may display the wrong fuel level.

The recall includes 524 cars, including 454 units of the GranTurismo coupe and 70 examples of its 2024 Maserati GranCabrio convertible sibling. A software issue in the affected vehicles’ body control modules may cause the digital fuel-level readout to show more fuel than is actually in the tank, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This could lead to drivers running out of fuel without knowing it, causing the engine to shut down while driving despite the instrument cluster showing some fuel remaining. Running out of fuel is never fun, but Maserati confirmed to the NHTSA that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Dealers will install updated software for the body control module, which is already being used on newly built cars coming out of the factory, free of charge. Maserati plans to mail owner notification letters Oct. 28. Owners can also contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737 for more information. Maserati’s reference number for this recall is 749.

Reaching the U.S. in 2023 as a 2024 model, the new GranTurismo was first shown in 2022, replacing a car that had ended production in 2019 after a 12-year run. The redesign brought twin-turbo V-6 power and an updated interior with three screens. The GranCabrio convertible arrived earlier this year.

This fuel-gauge issue won’t affect the GranTurismo Folgore, which gets its power from a trio of electric motors. A GranCabrio Folgore arrives for the 2025 model year as Maserati continues to roll out electric variants under the Folgore (Italian for “lightning”) banner.
