2024 Toyota Land Cruiser priced from $57,445 to $76,445

The redesigned Toyota Land Cruiser SUV returns to the U.S. as a smaller, less expensive overlander than the iconic Land Cruiser that Toyota phased out for the 2021 model year. It will cost between $57,445 and $76,445, including a $1,495 destination fee, when it goes on sale this spring, Toyota announced on Tuesday.

The 2021 Land Cruiser had a starting price of about $87,000 but it seated up to eight people with cargo-eating flip-out rear seats. Its venerable 381-hp V-8 complemented a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a 2-speed transfer case aided by a locking center differential and off-road suspension that made it a celebrity as well as king of the overlanding hill for decades around the world.

The new Land Cruiser still rides on a body-on-frame truck platform shared with the Toyota Tacoma midsize pickup truck and three-row Toyota Sequoia, but the boxy SUV now seats up to five passengers and comes with a hybrid powertrain. The 2.4-liter turbo-4 has an electric motor integrated into an 8-speed automatic transmission, which Toyota dubs the i-Force Max. That powertrain is used in larger vehicles in Toyota’s lineup, including the Toyota Tundra full-size pickup and the Sequoia full-size SUV

In the 2024 Land Cruiser it makes 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque; the old V-8 made 381 hp and 401 lb-ft. The 2024 Land Cruiser can tow up to 6,000 pounds. It still has a full-time four-wheel-drive system with an electronically controlled 2-speed transfer case, but it modernizes with a limited-slip center differential that can lock and a locking rear differential. An available front stabilizer bar disconnect enables some suspension flex and articulation for off-roading.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser

Toyota Land Cruiser features an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats with manual adjustments, keyless entry, and driver assistance tech such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and adaptive cruise control.

Toyota presents the 2024 Land Cruiser with only three trims, including the base 1958 that marks the year the Land Cruiser was introduced in North America. It costs $57,445, including destination.

The mid-grade Land Cruiser trim costs $63,445, and upgrades include a a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10-speaker audio system, and heated front seats with power adjustments. It has the sway bar disconnect and a surround-view camera system. An available Premium package sways out synthetic leather upholstery for real leather hides and adds front seat coolers, a moonroof, and a head-up display. Expect the package to cost about $2,500.

The $76,445 First Edition model turns Land Cruiser’s Lego-like body into a fortress on four wheels. It has the Premium package features and adds distinct 18-inch wheels, round LED headlights, as well as roof rails, rock rails, and a front skid plate.

Imported from Japan, the 2024 Land Cruiser goes on sale this spring.
