2024 VW ID.4 gets price hike, starts at $41,160

The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 gets a price increase across the board for the new model year, with big changes to the longer-range ID.4 Pro models in both capability and price. The 2024 ID.4 Standard stands pat except for an $870 increase over the 2023 ID.4. It costs $41,160, including the spike in destination fees from $1,295 to $1,425, Volkswagen disclosed on Wednesday.

Early in 2023, VW raised the price of the entry-level ID.4 and its 62-kwh battery pack by $1,500, resulting in the ID.4 Standard’s price increasing by $2,370 in the past year with no major changes.

Starting at $46,300 including destination, the 2024 ID.4 Pro and its larger 82-kwh battery pack has a $1,010 price increase from the 2023 ID.4 and a boost in power from its rear-motor drive unit now rated at 282 hp from 201 hp.

The price hikes still leave the 2024 ID.4 as a relative bargain, costing about $2,000 less than a similarly equipped 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 ($43,175), and Tesla Model Y ($42,990). Like the Model Y, all ID.4s qualify for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit that can now be used at the point of sale instead of waiting for year-end tax returns.

The smaller pack can be had in ID.4 Standard and ID.4 S models with an estimated range of 206 miles, down slightly from last year’s 209-mile rating. Last year, ID.4 S models were $5,000 more than the base model, but VW didn’t specify if that pricing scheme would change.

The larger 82-kwh battery pack comes in ID.4 Pro models. The range increases from 275 miles to 291 miles this year, in addition to the power boost. With the performance unit at the rear, the dual-motor AWD models get a bump in output from 295 hp to 330 hp. Volkswagen didn’t specify the price for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version of the ID.4 Pro, but last year it was $3,800 more.

Also new for 2024 is a 12.9-inch touchscreen on 82-kwh battery pack models now with backlit climate sliders that should be easier to use with the futzy haptic climate controls. A more intuitive menu system promises to improve the user experience, and a new gear shifter stalk replaces the outgoing gear nub twister on the top of the steering wheel housing.

VW sells the ID.4 in Standard, S, and S Plus trims with the 62-kwh pack, and Pro, Pro S, Pro S Plus, and all-wheel-drive iterations with the 82-kwh battery pack.

Built in Tennessee, the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 goes on sale soon.
