2025 Nissan Altima drops turbo-4, adds SV edition

Nissan may be planning to discontinue the Altima midsize four-door sedan in 2026, but in the meantime it’s slimmed down the complexity of the lineup—at least in its powertrain offerings.

This year Nissan has dropped the former turbo-4 option that once promised to boost performance and efficiency across the Nissan and Infiniti lineups. That 2.0-liter turbo-4, dubbed the SR VC-Turbo, could vary its engine compression through a complex mechanical system that didn’t deliver transformative power, wasn’t available with all-wheel drive, cost more, and didn’t lift fuel economy in the Altima at all.

This year’s sole powerplant is a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 188 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque when fitted with front-wheel drive, or 182 hp and 178 lb-ft when equipped with all-wheel drive.

The 2024 Nissan Altima earned a TCC Rating of 6.0 out of 10, with good safety and comfort scores offsetting a low performance rating.

Prices start at $28,140 for the Altima S, which includes cloth upholstery and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wired connections for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. They rise to $28,750 for the new Altima SV with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive boosts that by another $1,500. All 2025 Altima sedans get three free oil changes during the first two years or 24,000 miles of ownership. All models have automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and automatic high beams.

The new Altima SV puts together some popular equipment in one trim level. It includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a sunroof, a rear spoiler, 17-inch wheels, a wireless charging pad, and interior trim styled to look like carbon fiber.

It’s $29,970 for the Altima SR, with AWD at a $1,500 premium. Nissan charges $34,470 for the Altima SL, with the same increase for all-wheel drive. Features at the top of the sedan lineup include the 12.3-inch screen, Bose premium sound, wireless smartphone connectivity, a wireless smartphone charger, a surround-view camera system, a sunroof, and adaptive cruise control with limited hands-free functionality.
