2025 Subaru Ascent base model deleted, price jumps to $40,215

The 2025 Subaru Ascent no longer comes with a literal Base trim, with the Ascent Premium priced at $40,215, including a $1,420 destination fee.

That’s more than a $2,000 price increase from the 2024 Ascent Premium, but since the old Convenience Package is folded into the 2025 Ascent Premium as standard equipment, Subaru last week said it’s only a $340 markup, year over year. The 2025 Ascent model year also comes with new Bronze and Onyx Touring editions. 

The Convenience Package adds blind-spot monitors and automatic emergency steering to the suite of driver-assist tech on the 2025 Subaru Ascent. An emergency stopping system is also standard; it detects if a driver is unresponsive with adaptive cruise control active, then stops the car, activates the hazards, and unlocks the doors, then calls emergency services. Also standard is automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, and adaptive LED headlights. 

Standard convenience features include a power tailgate, a power driver’s seat, cloth seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, a satellite radio trial, at least two USB ports (USB-A and USB-C) and a vertically oriented 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also has heated front seats and heated side mirrors. 

The Ascent Premium seats eight passengers, though captain’s chairs for the second row to seat seven can be selected for no extra cost at $40,215. 

Every 2025 Ascent employs a 260-hp 2.4-liter flat-4 and a CVT that mimics gear shifts and sends power to all four wheels for standard all-wheel drive.  

The $43,615 Onyx returns with blacked-out elements that include 20-inch alloy wheels on the outside and water-repellent upholstery inside. It adds a heated steering wheel, LED fog lights, a panoramic sunroof, and dual-function X-Mode that allows for more torque at low speeds to get unstuck in mucky situations.

The $47,415 Limited can also be optioned in seven- or eight-seat configurations for no extra charge. The Limited adds two USB-A ports to the third-row seats, as well as a surround-view camera system, navigation, and Harman Kardon sound with 14 speakers. That equipment was an extra package last year. Also standard are leather upholstery, more power features on the front seats, and heated rear outboard seats.  

For a bit more bling, the $48,415 Bronze Edition adds to the Limited 20-inch alloy wheels with bronze accents, as well as bronze flourishes on the body cladding and inside on the accent stitching. 

The seven-seat Touring has a wood-patterned trim on the dash and perforated nappa leather seats. Cooled front seats and rain-sensing wipers also come with the Touring. It costs $50,415. 

The Onxy Edition Touring adds another $1,000 to top the lineup at $51,415. It melds the Onyx dark look with the Touring’s top features. 

Built in Lafayette, Indiana, the 2025 Subaru Ascent goes on sale this fall.
