Committed planners might be looking ahead to 2024 to save dates in the social calendar, but automakers always exceed even the most ambitious planners when it comes to the year ahead. We’re already covering the 2025 model year with seven weeks to go in 2023, with deliveries of those models expected for midway through 2024.
This forward planning, or time manipulation, dates back nearly a century, as a way to allow time to ramp up production of a new car and deliver it to dealers by the new calendar year. In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt codified the practice with one of many Great Depression-era executive orders to protect autoworkers from being idled before the holidays during a model year factory makeover.
Here’s a look forward to a few 2025s, some 2024s, and everything that moved us this week.
It’s a good, affordable electric hatchback with up to 275 miles of range, but its SUV credentials are thin, and those used to Volvo’s recent luxury vibe won’t find that here. It earns a TCC Rating of 7.5 out of 10.

Infiniti’s entry-level crossover SUV has pleasant styling and an appealing base price, though its powertrain underwhelms and its twin-screen infotainment can frustrate. It’s a 6.2.
The Ford Mustang enters a new generation with modern connectivity and traditional V-8 power. It earns a TCC Rating of 5.8 out of 10.
