2026 Alpine A390 electric performance crossover spied

  • The second EV from U.S.-bound Alpine has been spotted
  • The new EV will be called the A390 and was previewed by the A390 Beta concept
  • Production is scheduled to start in 2025 at plant in France

Alpine is set to launch a compact performance crossover later this year, previewed by the A390 Beta concept at the 2024 Paris auto show. A prototype has now been spotted again ahead of a debut later this year.

The A390 is an electric compact crossover with a fastback design similar to what’s found on the Polestar 2.

Other design details appear to include separate daytime running lights and headlight clusters, aerodynamically shaped wheels, an LED light strip for the taillights, and a short rear overhang. While the A390 Beta concept featured rear-opening, coach-style doors, the production model is likely to have conventional doors.

The A390 is expected to use a dedicated EV platform from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, specifically the CMF-EV design found in the Renault Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya. (Renault is the parent company of Alpine.) The platform delivers up to 429 hp in the Ariya Nismo, and something similar may be unleashed in the A390.

The vehicle is scheduled to enter production in 2025 at a plant in Dieppe, France, where Alpine builds the gas-powered A110 sports car—the sole vehicle currently sold by Alpine. An A290 electric subcompact hatch, shown last year, will also enter production in 2025, albeit at a separate plant in France.

Sales of the A390 in Alpine’s existing markets should start later this year. Although Alpine plans to enter the U.S. around 2027, the A390 and A290 aren’t expected to be part of that launch. Instead, the French performance marque is expected to debut stateside with a pair of crossovers—one targeting the Porsche Macan and another the Cayenne. Other upcoming Alpine models include an electric successor to the A110, a four-door sedan or liftback to be called the A310, and even a supercar.

Alpine’s model naming strategy uses an “A” to represent the brand, followed by a three-digit number. The first digit signifies the vehicle’s size and positioning, while the remaining two digits differentiate sporty models from more practical lifestyle models. Sporty models use “10,” like the current A110 sports car, while lifestyle models use “90,” like the A290 hatch and upcoming A390 crossover.
