Air India has further strengthened its global presence with the announcement of two key codeshare agreements—one with Icelandair and another with Air Mauritius—aimed at expanding international connectivity across Europe, Africa, and the Indian Subcontinent. Both agreements were formalised during the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting held in New Delhi.
The partnership with Icelandair marks Air India’s entry into the Nordic region, connecting India with Iceland through eight major European gateways, including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, and Amsterdam. Simultaneously, the expanded agreement with Air Mauritius deepens Air India’s access into the Southern Africa region, including routes to South Africa, Réunion, and Madagascar via Mauritius.
Under the new codeshare arrangement with Icelandair, Air India will place its ‘AI’ designator code on flights operated by Icelandair between Reykjavik and key European cities, enabling Indian travellers to connect to Iceland with a single itinerary. Icelandair will reciprocate by adding its ‘FI’ code to Air India’s flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Europe, opening access to multiple Indian cities for European and North American passengers flying with Icelandair.

For Air Mauritius, the expanded codeshare enables both airlines to place their codes across 17 routes connecting India with Mauritius, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Antananarivo, and Réunion. Travellers will benefit from through-ticketing, coordinated schedules, and baggage checked through to their final destinations.

Our partnership with Air India enables greater flexibility for our guests.”
Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair, added, “This strategic partnership with Air India marks a significant milestone for us. It opens up exciting new travel opportunities to and from India and introduces Iceland as a destination to a whole new market.”
The expanded codeshare services with Air Mauritius will be available for booking from 1 July 2025, while the Air India–Icelandair partnership is subject to regulatory approvals and will be progressively opened for reservations.
These developments mark a continued evolution in Air India’s international growth strategy, as the carrier focuses on building an extensive global network through bilateral partnerships that offer greater convenience and choice for passengers.
