‘Bihar a failed state’: What Prashant Kishor told state diaspora in US | India News

NEW DELHI: Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor labelled Bihar a “failed state” considering its position “on all developmental parameters.” Drawing comparison to Sudan, he pointed out that the characteristics of such states are visible in its population which “are worried about who to shoot and where to capture.”
“The characteristics of failed states are visible in the population here. For example… sometimes we think… why are people in Sudan fighting for 20 years in the civil war. Because when you are in that failed state, then people are not worried about how our children will study in Sudan. They are worried about who to shoot and where to capture. So that is the situation in Bihar too. And we must be aware of it,” he said, addressing Bihari diaspora in US.
“We have to realise that this (Bihar) is a state which is in deep shit. If Bihar were a country, it would be the 11th largest country in terms of population in the world. We have just overtaken Japan in terms of population,” he added.
The election strategist outlined key priorities for governance of his party, with a strong emphasis on improving school education. Kishor said that, if voted to power, his administration would prioritize educational reforms, with funding sourced from the revenue generated by lifting the statewide alcohol ban.
Kishor’s newly formed party, Jan Suraaj, suffered a significant setback in its debut election, failing to secure a single seat and unable to retain its deposits in three constituencies.
The party’s performance was disappointing, with the exception of Imamganj, where Jan Suraaj candidate Jitendra Paswan managed to secure over 22% of the vote. In the other three constituencies, however, the party struggled to make an impact, marking a difficult start for Kishor’s political venture.
