Chevy fixes 2024 Blazer EV, slashes price by $6,520

After a glitchy launch due to software issues with the new 2024 Chevy Blazer EV, GM announced Friday that it has fixed its newest EV and it slashed the price to encourage customers to revisit it.

“We have made significant software updates that will improve features and functionality to deliver on the high expectations of our customers,” Chevy spokesperson Leslie Rajewski said in a statement. “We’re confident these improvements will address concerns heard from some early owners.”

Chevy paused sales of the Blazer EV late last year due to “software quality issues” that plagued first drives by automotive journalists as well as early adopters of the Blazer EV. In some high profile incidents, infotainment glitches and malfunction lights as well as error codes overwhelmed the system as to render the vehicle nearly inoperable. GM asserted that the software issues were not safety related, or related to the integration of Google built-in as its infotainment operating system. It also assured media and customers that the issues were not related to its Ultium propulsion system shared in the related 2024 Honda Prologue and forthcoming Acura ZDX electric crossovers that have not appeared to have the same problems.

Chevy said they made the ambient lighting customizable, tweaked the digital instrument cluster, added a state-of-charge display, as well as other updates. Current Blazer EV customers can expect notification via email to bring in their vehicle to a dealership for a software update.

To assuage potential customers, GM slashed the price of the Blazer EV by up to $6,520 on the base LT AWD. The LT AWD now costs $50,195, including destination, but GM also announced that the Blazer EV once again qualifies for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit. That lowers the effective cost for qualified households to $42,695.

The LT models have a 85-kwh battery pack and the LT AWD has a 279-mile range.

The Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX also now qualify for the full credit, the respective automakers announced this week.

The Blazer EV RS AWD now costs $54,595, which is $5,620 less than when it launched last year, and the tax credit drops it down to $47,095. RS models get a larger 102-kwh battery pack and a more powerful rear motor for its AWD system. It also has a 279-mile range.

The long-range Blazer RS RWD gets the same price cut to start at $56,170, or $48,670 with the credit. It has a range estimated at 324 miles.

The forthcoming entry-level LT FWD is still supposed to start below $50,000, before any potential credit, but it won’t arrive until later this year.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is back on sale now.
