EAM Jaishankar at FAITH Conclave 2025, ETTravelWorld

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar declared that “tourism connects any nation to the world even more than diplomacy” while addressing industry leaders at the FAITH Tourism Conclave 2025, positioning the sector as crucial to India’s global strategy.

Speaking in New Delhi, Jaishankar revealed that Prime Minister Modi has established Tourism, Trade, and Technology as the “3T framework” – a new benchmark for assessing India’s foreign relationships. The EAM noted Modi’s consistent message to the diaspora during overseas visits to “bring their friends along when they next visit India.”

The Minister showcased significant infrastructure achievements, revealing that India’s airports have doubled in the last decade. Railways have undergone “sea change” in reach and quality, while highways have been dramatically upgraded. The UDAN scheme has made domestic air travel more accessible, and e-visa implementation has improved visitor experience.

Jaishankar emphasised how India’s G20 Presidency strategically showcased every state to global delegates. “PM Modi was determined that every State must showcase itself before the world,” he said, with conferences held near heritage sites for maximum cultural immersion. He noted these “most powerful influencers of our times” took back transformative impressions of India.

Vietnam is considering a new visa policy for Indian tourists to boost tourism. The move highlights Vietnam’s strong relationship with India and aims to enhance tourism in destinations like Da Nang, which already attracts a significant number of Indian visitors. The country focuses on adapting to Indian travelers’ needs, particularly in MICE and wedding tourism sectors.

Recent UNESCO additions include Maratha military landscapes and Assam’s Moidams, joining a decade-long expansion of India’s heritage portfolio. The “Heal in India” initiative is gaining international traction, with growing medical tourist arrivals supported by AYUSH practices mainstreaming and International Yoga Day promotion.Diplomatic venue shift
The EAM highlighted a notable trend of high-level diplomatic meetings moving beyond Delhi, citing President Macron’s Jaipur reception, President Sanchez’s Vadodara welcome, and other examples of India showcasing its diversity to world leaders.

While acknowledging tourism’s economic value, Jaishankar emphasised its role in promoting national integration and cultural pride. “There are few activities that do more to energize the economy and multiply employment,” he stated, connecting the industry to the broader Atmanirbharta and Viksit Bharat visions.

The Minister concluded by praising the industry’s contribution to enhancing “Brand India” during globally uncertain times.
