Ford Mustang Sales Are Rebounding. Here’s What The Numbers Show

• Ford Mustang sales were up 50.4 percent last month compared to January 2025.
• The Mustang outsold the Mach-E by a wide margin.
• Ford ended 2025 strong with Mustang sales up 3.0 percent after a slow start.

After a shaky start to 2025, Ford Mustang sales ended on a high note that’s already continuing into the new year. The Dearborn-based automaker sold more Mustangs in January 2025 than it did one year prior, with sales up 50.4 percent. 

Ford sold 3,609 Mustangs in January, which outsold the Mach-E by a wide margin. The automaker sold only 1,040 examples of its electric crossover, with sales down a whopping 70.5 percent since the federal incentives ended. The Mach-E outsold the Mustang last year, but we don’t expect that to happen in 2026.  

Mustang sales got off to a very slow start in 2025, down 31.6 percent through the first three months. Sales were up 3.2 percent in the second quarter and then tumbled 10 percent in the quarter after. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that sales figures truly started to show signs of a rebound.  

Ford ended last year selling 12,515 Mustangs in just three months, an increase of 66.5 percent that helped the model overcome a 10.1 percent sales deficit in 2024. Mustang sales ended up 3.0 percent for 2025, but it’s too early to know for sure if Ford will repeat that success for 2026.

While Mustang sales are trending upward, they still remain well below their pre-pandemic levels. Ford sold just over 72,000 Mustangs in 2019, down from 122,000 in 2015 with the launch of the S550. Mustang sales have never been the same after the mid-2000s and the Great Recession; the company sold 166,530 units in 2006.

Motor1’s Take: The Mustang might still be America’s best-selling sports car, with sales finally trending upward, but the car still has fewer buyers than ever.

Consumers continue to buy crossovers, trucks, and SUVs but are unable or unwilling to add a Mustang—or other sports cars—to their garages, as sales across the segment are trending downward. This is a good start for the Mustang, but we don’t expect it to be a banner year for the model.
