Ford Recalls 2026: 7.4 Million Cars

Last year, Ford Motor Company issued more recalls than any other automaker ever. It surpassed the previous record holder, General Motors, by more than double, with 153 recalls affecting nearly 13 million vehicles.

It’s unlikely that Ford will issue as many recalls this year, but based on what we’re already seeing, the number of affected vehicles could actually surpass 2025’s number. So far in 2026, the Blue Oval has issued 18 recalls involving 7,396,427 vehicles and one recall for 2,633 engine block heaters.

The company’s largest recall so far affects 4.4 million trucks, including the brand’s best-selling F-Series pickup. A software issue could cause the brakes and indicators on a hooked-up trailer to stop working, which the automaker is fixing with an over-the-air update.

Over the last several years, the automaker’s high number of recalls has drawn widespread attention. It issued the most recalls of any automaker in 2022 and 2023, racking up billions in warranty costs.

In late 2024, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) fined Ford for failing to comply with federal recall requirements. The automaker had also agreed to make several changes in its recall process while meeting quarterly with NHTSA during the three-year consent order.

Less than a year later, Ford announced that its increase in recalls reflected the automaker’s “intensive strategy to quickly find and fix hardware and software issues and go the extra mile to help protect customers.” The Dearborn-based company said it more than doubled its safety and technical expert teams and increased testing of critical vehicle systems, such as powertrains.

Below are the 19 recalls FoMoCo has issued so far this year (as of March 13, 2026).
