Genesis this week recalled approximately 32,000 luxury vehicles because of a software error that could interfere with instrument cluster displays.
The recall includes the following vehicles:
The digital instrument clusters in these vehicles could randomly turn off or flicker due to “erroneous software logic,” according to the NHTSA. Any failure to clearly display images could prevent drivers from seeing the speedometer, fuel gauge, or other vital information and warning messages, increasing the risk of a crash.
Genesis told the NHTSA that it is aware of 454 reported incidents of instrument cluster failures caused by this software issues, but isn’t aware of any related crashes, injuries, or fires.
The remedy is an update of the instrument-cluster software, which requires a dealership visit but will be performed free of charge. Genesis will also reimburse owners for any related out-of-pocket expenses.
Genesis plans to mail owner notification letters Apr. 20. Owners can also call the automaker’s customer service department at 844-340-9741, or visit its recall site, for more information. Genesis’ reference number for this recall is 026G.
Genesis isn’t the only brand dealing with flaky instrument cluster software. Sibling brand Kia recalled 14,163 EV9 electric SUVs in October of last year for a similar issue.
The Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80 were also included in a November 2024 recall of 145,235 electric vehicles to address a potential sudden loss of drive power. Genesis uses the Electrified moniker for EVs that are based on gasoline models, as opposed to dedicated EVs like the GV60 and a forthcoming three-row SUV based on 2024’s Neolun concept.
