Goa Government Implements Stricter Safety Protocols for Tourism Sector Amid Rising Concerns, ETTravelWorld

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant chaired a coordination meeting at the Mantralaya, Porvorim, joined by Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, Chief Secretary Dr V. Candavelou, DGP Alok Kumar, and Director of Tourism Kedar Naik, along with senior officials and industry representatives. The meeting, convened following recent incidents in the tourism sector, aimed to reinforce safety standards and strengthen inter-departmental coordination during the high-traffic festive season.

Dr Sawant stated that the Government is committed to preventing incidents like the recent fire at Arpora. He directed departments and stakeholders to implement preventive safety protocols and to monitor high-footfall zones such as beaches and waterfall areas. Only licensed and compliant operations will be allowed to function.

The Chief Minister underscored the importance of rigorous checks on adventure and water sports activities, including equipment and life jacket inspections. He further instructed that all hospitality and nightlife establishments must maintain valid fire and safety certifications and operate within authorised limits. Police verification of all staff is now mandatory for hotels, clubs, and restaurants.

He reiterated that firm action will be taken against touts, unlicensed bouncers, and illegal rent-a-vehicle operations. The Government has formed a Joint Enforcement and Monitoring Committee to inspect establishments, verify licences, and ensure compliance. Non-compliant venues will face immediate suspension until corrective measures are taken.

Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte emphasised that Goa remains a trusted and welcoming destination, committed to safety and sustainability. He noted that while the State continues to expand tourism, this growth must be guided by responsibility and community protection. “We need a Goa that continues to attract visitors while protecting its people. A Goa that grows tourism without compromising safety or sustainability,” he said.

With unified monitoring, enhanced safety systems, and departmental coordination, the Government reaffirmed that Goa is fully prepared for the festive tourism season, ensuring both visitor safety and community welfare.
