The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google India Private Limited to strengthen India’s tourism ecosystem through technology, data-driven insights and digital capability building.
The agreement marks the Ministry’s first comprehensive partnership with a global technology company and aims to support the promotion of the ‘Incredible India’ campaign while improving digital engagement with domestic and international travellers.
The collaboration is built around three key areas. The first focuses on providing travel demand insights through Google-developed dashboards that will help the Ministry monitor global travel trends and support data-driven planning and decision-making. These insights are expected to enable quicker responses to changing traveller preferences and emerging tourism opportunities.
The second pillar centres on enhancing digital discovery. Under the partnership, the Incredible India app will continue exploring stronger integration with Google Maps to improve destination discovery and navigation. In addition, YouTube will support the Ministry in expanding authentic tourism content and optimising the Incredible India channel to reach wider international audiences.
The third component focuses on capability building. Google will conduct training programmes for Ministry officials and tourism practitioners to strengthen digital marketing skills, campaign management and performance monitoring. The initiative is intended to build institutional expertise and support long-term digital transformation within the tourism sector.
Commenting on the partnership, Preeti Lobana, Country Manager, Google India, said, “India is one of the most searched travel destinations globally, yet much of its diversity remains to be fully discovered digitally. This collaboration is our commitment to closing that gap. From sharing insights on the dynamic landscape of global travel to empowering the Ministry’s teams with strategic digital skills, every element is designed to support the Ministry’s vision. We are proud to partner with the Ministry to build a blueprint for sustained digital excellence.”
The collaboration will be overseen through a joint review mechanism to ensure timely implementation of agreed milestones. The partnership reflects the Ministry’s focus on strengthening digital tourism promotion while leveraging technology to improve destination visibility, visitor engagement and industry development.
