Tori Spelling is working to give her five children some much-needed stability after a recent evacuation from their rental home and her split from her husband, Dean McDermott.
A source tells ET that Spelling, 50, is “trying to find her footing and doing her best to take care of her kids” during this difficult time. It’s been a rough couple of months for the Scary Movie 2 actress amid a public split from McDermott, 56, a hospital stint, an evacuation from their home due to mold issues and recent police-involved situation in her rental neighborhood.
“She’s not used to moving around for months and months on end. Being forced out of her rental was scary for her and her children,” the source told ET of their most recent struggle.
In mid-October, Spelling and her children – Liam, 16, Stella, 15, Hattie, 12, Finn, 11 and Beau, 6 – were forcefully evacuated from their rental home in Los Angeles when a SWAT team was called in to deal with an armed gunman in a nearby home. At the time, ET shared photographs of Spelling outside of the rental home during the SWAT standoff.
The ordeal has been a lot for the daughter of legendary Hollywood producer Aaron Spelling and her family. At one point, Spelling and her five kids were living in a $100,000 RV.
“Her kids are at an age where they can kind of understand what’s going on,” the source continued. “Their friends from school do too and ask them about their current situation.”
The source continued, stating the ongoing home struggles have been exacerbated by the split between Spelling and McDermott, who tied the knot in 2006. “It’s been difficult for Tori to explain what’s going on with their dad and the lack of general stability to her kids,” the source said.
In June, McDermott took to Instagram to share that after 17 years of marriage and 18 years together, they were separating officially but would continue to co-parent amicably.
“It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways, and start a new journey of our own,” the actor’s statement read. “We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time. We ask that you all respect our privacy as we take this time to surround our family with love and work our way through this.”
The Canadian native quickly deleted the post after it initially went up but it did not appear to change much between the couple.
Just last week ET reported that McDermott was seen holding hands with Lily Calo, a 32-year-old senior account executive at Conscious Community Global in Los Angeles.
“Dean has been dating Lily, but it’s not super serious yet,” a source said at the time.
It’s unclear how the pair met or when they became a couple.
