The New York Auto Show is this week, and Hyundai will have “something big” to reveal at the event. Details are nonexistent outside of the automaker’s cryptic teaser video.
The video is only 15 seconds long and shows a cube-like rock spinning in the air against a barren landscape. There’s also a person walking toward the camera, but that’s all the clip reveals.
If we dig into the details and attach meaning to the visuals, this looks like the perfect landscape for a new product based on the Crater concept. Hyundai says this will be a “major world debut,” so we expect to see a new product.
While we have our fingers crossed that Hyundai will turn the Crater into a reality, it’s unclear exactly what the automaker has planned. Outside of vehicles, Hyundai Motor Group dabbles in an assortment of technologies, and, just a few years ago, was teasing a future driven by robots, so we will just have to wait and see.
Hyundai will host its press conference on Wednesday, April 1, at 9:55 am ET at the New York Auto Show. The automaker will livestream the event on its YouTube channel.
Motor1’s Take: We are excited to see whatever Hyundai has planned. We hope it’s a production version of the Crater, as off-road SUVs remain popular with consumers. The automaker needs a rugged competitor, and New York would be the perfect venue.
