IndiGo Names Willie Walsh as New CEO to Propel Aviation Growth, ETTravelWorld


IndiGo appoints Willie Walsh as CEO

InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) has announced the appointment of Willie Walsh as Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approvals. Walsh’s tenure at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) will conclude on 31 July 2026, and he is expected to join IndiGo no later than 3 August 2026.

Walsh, widely known as Willie, currently serves as Director General of IATA. He previously held leadership roles as Chief Executive Officer of British Airways and International Airlines Group (IAG), the holding company of Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling.

Walsh is regarded as one of the most influential leaders in modern aviation. His career spans roles as a pilot, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Aer Lingus (2000–2005), Chief Executive Officer of British Airways (2005–2011), Chief Executive Officer of IAG (2011–2020), and Director General of IATA since 2021.

In his new role at IndiGo, Walsh will oversee the airline’s overall management and strategic direction. His mandate includes driving operational performance, advancing network and commercial strategy, and enhancing customer experience. He will work closely with the Board and leadership team as the airline enters its next phase of growth.
