Jaguar Design Vision concept teased ahead of Dec. 2 debut

  • Jaguar plans to replace its current lineup with three high-end EVs
  • A concept previewing the first arrival will debut in December during 2024 Miami Art Week
  • The production model will follow in 2025

Jaguar has provided a first look at the highly anticipated concept that previews the design for a sleek grand tourer that arrives next year, and symbolizes the automaker’s shift toward becoming a ultra-luxury electric vehicle manufacturer.

A teaser photo released late on Wednesday shows the Jaguar Design Vision Concept, which is set for a debut on Dec. 2 during 2024 Miami Art Week. The photo shows the concept from the rear and reveals a fastback roof that appears to be devoid of a rear window, like what you find on the Polestar 4. The Polestar uses cameras and a digital rearview mirror to provide a view of what’s happening out back.

New Jaguar logo

The teaser comes a day after Jaguar unveiled its new logo and branding, which eschews the automaker’s traditional performance image in favor of something that may appeal to more fashion-conscious buyers. Jaguar said the new branding is about making its values “relevant for a contemporary audience.”

Under Jaguar’s transformation plan, which was first announced in 2021, the automaker will launch three electric vehicles this decade. A large SUV and sedan are expected to follow the grand tourer.

New Jaguar logo

Jaguar earlier in November released some photos of a heavily camouflaged prototype for the grand tourer, which showed a sleek car with a bluff front end, a very long hood, and the cabin pushed rearward, a bit like the original XKs. However, like the concept shown in the teaser, there appears to be very little of the sensual curves that have characterized Jaguars of the past.

The grand tourer will debut in production form next year, with deliveries to follow in 2026. It’s a risky move for Jaguar, which has already started axing its current lineup in some markets, including in its U.K. home. In these markets, dealerships, which usually also have Land Rovers to sell, will focus on clearing out current stock ahead of the new EV arrivals.

Next-generation Jaguar EV prototype

The new breed will be positioned at higher price points than what Jaguars have cost in the recent past, and will ride on a purpose-built EV platform named JEA (Jaguar Electrified Architecture). Jaguar has previously said a unique platform is important for separating its EVs from those of sister company Land Rover.

Jaguar has hinted at the grand tourer arriving with a starting price of about 100,000 British pounds (approximately $163,000). The automaker has also promised more power than any previous Jaguar road car, and a range of 430 miles based on the WLTP test cycle used overseas. The range should still come in well over 300 miles when measured on the stricter EPA cycle.
