Lamborghini Miura SV: Perfectly Restored

  • This year marks the 60th anniversary of the legendary Lamborghini Miura SV.
  • This 1972 Miura SV was restored by Lamborghini’s Polo Storico division.
  • The restoration process took more than three years from start to finish.

Against the backdrop of Rome’s timeless architecture, the first edition of the Anantara Concorso Roma—La Dolce Vita delle Automobili—took place from April 16 to 19. The event used several of the city’s historic locations as its setting and brought together collectors, restorers, and classic-car manufacturers. As part of the program, Automobili Lamborghini presented a recent restoration from its in-house heritage department.

The occasion is tied to the legendary sports car’s 60th anniversary this year. Lamborghini showcased a particularly striking 1972 example in Rome. On display was a Miura SV, restored over three years by Lamborghini Polo Storico. The goal was to return it to its original factory delivery condition.

The work was based on extensive archival research, especially the original production data sheet. The vehicle’s authenticity was ultimately certified.

The Miura SV restoration followed a strictly documentation-based approach. The car arrived in Sant’Agata Bolognese in late 2023 in a condition that did not match original specifications. During the process, all relevant components were analyzed and, where necessary, brought back to the correct configuration. This included body details such as air intakes, ventilation grilles, and model-specific trim pieces. Technical elements such as center-lock wheels and the exhaust system were also revised to period-correct specifications.

The interior was likewise reconstructed based on period configurations. This included reinstating the air-conditioning system, adjusting the controls, and returning the cabin to its original color scheme. The paint finish in “Luci del Bosco” (literally “forest lights”—a color with the same name also appeared in the late 1970s on some Alfa Romeo models), as well as the interior in the shade “Senat,” were determined using historical references, since these specifications changed over the production run.

In addition to this exhibit, three other historic Lamborghini vehicles owned by private collectors entered the Concours. They included two Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary examples and a Lamborghini Miura P400. The latter drew particular attention due to its connection to the film The Italian Job. The car received an award in its class and also earned a special film-related honor.

The Miura P400 associated with the film has a story of its own. For filming, the car was modified in certain details, but it was not permanently altered or destroyed. Contrary to widespread assumptions, the original vehicle survived. Its identity was later confirmed by Polo Storico. Restoration and certification were completed in 2019 for the movie’s anniversary.

Motor1’s Take: While the Jaguar E-Type is often cited as the most beautiful car ever built, the Lamborghini Miura certainly belongs in that conversation. Lamborghini’s Polo Storico team did stellar work bringing this gorgeous example back to better-than-new spec. And it’s great to see it being shared with the world.
