Lincoln Could Get Another Three-Row Crossover. And It Might Be Hybrid

Lincoln might not have the most extensive lineup, but it’s a relatively strong one—and it might soon grow. Brand executives have allegedly told dealers that they’ll soon have a new, additional model to sell, except there’s no indication as to when it will arrive or what it might be.

Automotive News is reporting that Lincoln has promised it will launch a new nameplate, but the brand’s direction has recently changed, shifting to hybrids. Lincoln was supposed to get a three-row electric crossover in 2027, supposedly based on a Ford equivalent, but the automaker canceled that project last year after initially delaying it. 

Potential hybrid powertrains, which will likely power this new Lincoln, could include range-extended electric vehicles. This new vehicle will likely still be a three-row crossover, but nothing is confirmed. We doubt Lincoln is ready to revive the Continental just yet.

Unlike other luxury brands, Lincoln has waited to make a concerted effort to shift its focus to selling only battery-electric vehicles. In fact, Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley is glad he didn’t force the brand in that direction.

Last month, Farley said in an interview that hybrids and range-extended electric vehicles would better serve Lincoln’s needs right now. But that doesn’t mean Lincoln isn’t thinking about electric cars.

Farley had said he thought an affordable electric Lincoln “would make sense” for the brand, which doesn’t sound like a three-row crossover. If the new model is a three rows of seats, it’d be the brand’s third, joining the Navigator and Aviator.

The three-row vehicle that Ford was supposed to launch was allegedly similar in size to the Explorer, with over 350 miles of range, and we suspect the Lincoln version was similar to the Aviator. That’ll likely remain the case if the new model is another large crossover.

Lincoln only offers the Aviator with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that makes 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. There was a hybrid version, along with the Explorer, but the automaker discontinued the pair for 2024 due to low demand.

The only other hybrid in Lincoln’s lineup right now is the Corsair, so more models with some electrical assist won’t hurt. However, if the new model is a three-row crossover, it’ll be the brand’s third in a lineup of just five models.
