Mainstream Faraday Future EV prototypes debuting at CES

Faraday Future plans to unveil prototypes of its mainstream FX electric vehicle sub-brand at CES 2025, scheduled for Jan. 5-7 in Las Vegas.

Short for Faraday X, FX was first teased in a September investor presentation. At the time, Faraday said it was planning two models called FX 5 and FX 6 priced between $20,000-$30,000 and $30,000-$50,000, respectively, with fully electric and gasoline range-extended powertrain options.

The FX prototypes were teased by Faraday in November, when the company said it was planning to ship them from Beijing to Los Angeles. The automaker confirmed their arrival on Dec. 19, saying that, after an appearance at CES, they would head to its manufacturing facility in Hanford, California, for development work and testing.

Faraday has said it will pursue an asset-light model with the FX sub-brand—similar to the now-defunct Fisker—so it’s unclear if the FX models will be assembled in California or by a contract manufacturer elsewhere.

On Dec. 22, Faraday also announced $30 million in new financing commitments—enough to keep the struggling EV firm going but a drop in the bucket compared to what other companies are spending to develop and launch new vehicles.

Faraday said in September that it was targeting a 2025 production start for the first of the FX models. But further updates will come at CES.

Faraday’s only production model so far is the $309,000 FF 91 electric SUV. This was first shown in prototype form at CES in 2017, but financial issues and executive shakeups contributed to long production delays. The first customer example wasn’t delivered until August 2023, and it’s unclear how many vehicles Faraday has delivered since then.
