MakeMyTrip Launches Multilingual AI Trip Assistant for Hassle-Free Travel Planning, ETTravelWorld

MakeMyTrip has launched a new multilingual, generative AI-powered Trip Planning Assistant, designed to make travel planning and booking more conversational, accessible, and inclusive. The new assistant, currently in beta, represents a significant expansion of the company’s AI capabilities and is part of its broader strategy to embed intelligent systems across the entire travel journey.

Built on an agentic AI framework, the platform supports real-time assistance for users across categories including flights, hotels, holidays, ground transport, visas, and foreign exchange. It allows for natural, back-and-forth conversations through both voice and text inputs. The system is currently available in English and Hindi, with additional Indian languages expected to be added following user feedback and further testing.

The assistant enables users to ask open-ended or specific travel-related questions, such as “Where can I go in August for a relaxing holiday with my children?” or “Mujhe Udaipur mein 3-star hotel 3500 ke budget mein chahiye”, and receive responses based on live availability, pricing, and preferences. Unlike most travel tools that offer only suggestions, the MakeMyTrip assistant enables users to move from discovery to booking within the same conversational interface.

According to the company, this product has been developed to bridge the gap between inspiration and transaction, especially for users from non-English-speaking backgrounds who have traditionally found digital travel platforms less intuitive. The integration of voice and vernacular language support is also aimed at improving accessibility in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets.

Speaking at the launch, Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of MakeMyTrip, said that the platform aims to serve travellers in a more human-centric way. He described the assistant as a tool to convert intent into action, particularly for users from the ‘Bharat’ heartland who may have been underserved by previous online travel interfaces.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism signed nine marketing agreements at the World Travel Market in London. The agreements are with travel companies including MakeMyTrip from India and several UK companies. The goal is to attract more visitors to Abu Dhabi. The department wants to reach 39.3 million visitors by 2030.

Group Chief Technology Officer Sanjay Mohan added that the assistant represents one of the most technically complex products built by the company. It uses a multi-agent architecture that can collaborate across categories in real time and is layered with custom language models and verification protocols. The company has previously introduced AI-led features such as Fare Lock, Zero Cancellation, voice-led customer support, and predictive rail booking tools. The launch of the GenAI assistant builds upon this legacy by placing AI at the centre of the travel planning experience.

Looking ahead, MakeMyTrip plans to extend the platform’s functionality to support image and video-led interactions, as well as semantic search. This will allow users to plan their travel through more abstract and visual inputs, further simplifying the discovery process and enabling more tailored recommendations.

The launch signals MakeMyTrip’s continuing investment in AI infrastructure, with the goal of creating a highly responsive, multilingual platform capable of supporting complex travel decisions for a wide range of users.
