Maserati GranTurismo production halted until Feb. 3

Stellantis has paused production at its sprawling Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, due to slowing demand for the vehicles built there.

The vehicles include the Fiat 500e electric hatch as well as the Maserati GranTurismo coupe and convertible, both gas and electric versions.

Citing comments made by Stellantis to union officials, Reuters reported on Dec. 20 that a pause in production of the Maserati GranTurismo, originally initiated at the start of December, will be extended by several weeks until Feb. 3.

Production of the 500e was also already on hold, with the pause to be extended by a couple of weeks until Jan. 20, according to Reuters. Production of the 500e was already paused multiple times over the past year due to slowing demand, particularly in the vehicle’s main market of Europe.

In an attempt to boost production, Fiat is in the process of modifying the car’s EV platform to support a gas engine in hybrid configuration. Fiat in June said the 500 hybrid, to be called the 500 Ibrida, won’t arrive until sometime between late 2025 and early 2026.

The Mirafiori plant also built Maserati’s Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte until production of those models ceased earlier this year. The Ghibli won’t be replaced, but successors to the Levante and Quattroporte are in the works, though timing is uncertain. The successors are expected to offer electric powertrains only, as Maserati is committed to offering only EVs by 2028.
