McLaren has issued a recall on its GT supercar due to the front hood potentially opening unexpectedly.
The recall covers examples from the 2020-2023 model years, and affects a total of 1,012 cars in the U.S.
According to the recall notice published by the NHTSA on Sept. 11 (recall campaign number 24V661000), excessive tension in the manual release cable of the hood latch may cause the latch to release, resulting in the hood potentially opening when driving and blocking the driver’s view.
McLaren said it received several reports of the issue occurring, though isn’t aware of any injuries or crashes caused by it. The automaker said that to its knowledge, every time a hood opened unexpectedly the driver was able to safely stop as some visibility remains even with the hood up.

The remedy requires McLaren to replace the hood latch with an updated design, a service the automaker will perform free of charge.
McLaren said it has already been installing the updated hood latch on GT supercars and the model’s GTS successor since May of last year.
McLaren hasn’t provided a schedule for owner notification of the recall, but anyone interested in finding out more can contact McLaren at 855-202-8815 or visit the automaker’s recall page.
