Next week, McLaren Racing unveils its new World Endurance Championship race car. It will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year and will spawn a GTR track variant that a few very lucky customers will actually be able to buy.
The two cars, the McLaren MCL-HY and MCL-HY GTR, will debut on May 4 and were developed in close collaboration between McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive. Ahead of the car’s debut, McLaren teased the car, revealing its lighting signature.
The car looks different from the one McLaren revealed when the company announced it would compete in the WEC’s hypercar class. The accent lights are one continuous strip that wraps around the lower elements, and the front end looks rounder.
The race car will feature a twin-turbocharged V6 from Autotecnica Motori, powering a Dallara chassis. It’s unclear which engine will power the track version, but McLaren will reveal both cars on May 4.
Motor1’s Take: The last GTR from McLaren, the Senna, debuted nearly a decade ago, so it’s exciting to see the automaker ready to offer enthusiasts a new track car. We expect it will have a V8 engine instead of a V6, but McLaren might surprise us.
