Mercedes-Benz G-Class Past II Future is a heritage-inspired limited edition

Mercedes-Benz partnered with fashion designer Nigo on a limited-edition G-Class celebrating the iconic SUV’s 45th anniversary.

Limited to just 20 units worldwide, the G-Class Past II Future features green and gray two-tone exterior paintwork, with blacked-out exterior trim and wheels. Inside, the limited edition has checkered upholstery referencing vintage G-Class models. The color scheme echoes a one-off restoration of a 1990s G-Class convertible also designed by Nigo.

Past II Future editions can be ordered as diesel G 450d and gasoline G 550 configurations. Of the two, only the G 550 is sold in the U.S. Downsizing from the previous twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 for 2025, it uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 assisted by a mild-hybrid system, and producing 443 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque.

Mercedes isn’t specifically discussing U.S. availability or pricing, but said all 20 Past II Future editions will be delivered to customers globally in April 2025. Note that the G 550 already costs $148,250 in the U.S. before destination.

In addition to the G 550’s downsized engine, the G-Class receives a few other updates for the 2025 model year. Some changes were made to the exterior styling and interior layout, and the AMG G 63 performance model adds an active anti-roll system, while keeping its V-8. Underneath is essentially the same platform that debuted for the 2019 model year.

The 2025 G-Class lineup also includes an all-electric version for the first time. Officially badged as the G 580 with EQ Technology, it features a quad-motor powertrain and a tank-turn gimmick calculated to win over customers skeptical of the wisdom of electrifying such an old-school SUV.
