British sports car marque Morgan is gearing up to introduce a new flagship model that’s set to replace the Plus Six, which ended production last year.
Known for its blend of classic design and modern engineering, Morgan is currently testing prototypes on public roads as it fine-tunes the new flagship model, which is slated for a debut in the spring.
Photos of one of the prototypes, fully wrapped in camouflage gear, show a clear evolution of Morgan’s signature design, albeit with what appears to be a more minimalist and curvier look.
The prototype is fitted with a hard-top roof that is likely removable, just like on the Plus Six. Also retained from the Plus Six will be a 6-cylinder engine, specifically a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 sourced from BMW. The engine delivers 335 hp in the Plus Six.
Prototype for new Morgan flagship sports car due in 2025
Morgan said it has developed an updated version of its CX-Generation platform that debuted in 2019 in the Plus Six. However, the company hasn’t revealed what updates were made for the new platform, which is known as the CXV and retains its predecessor’s bonded aluminum construction.
Morgan said it will continue to drip-feed information on the new flagship leading up to the debut in the spring.
The company hasn’t said whether the car will be offered to customers in the U.S., though the recent launch of the Plus Four here suggests the new flagship will also make the trip.
