In its unwavering commitment to ensuring the utmost safety and security of air travel operations, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has announced its scheduled comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance. As a result, both runways, RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32, will temporarily cease operations on October 17, 2023, from 1100 hrs to 1700 hrs.
CSMIA, being one of the busiest airports in the country, said it takes immense pride in executing safe, secure, efficient, and seamless operations. To uphold these standards, it meticulously plans and executes runway maintenance works throughout the year.
The primary objective behind this scheduled temporary closure is to facilitate essential repair and maintenance activities vital for maintaining the airport’s infrastructure at the highest standards. This annual post-monsoon preventive maintenance plan ensures that CSMIA’s facilities are in optimal condition to serve passengers and airline operations.
The Mumbai airport had issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) six months in advance, thereby providing ample time for airlines and other stakeholders to plan their flight schedules accordingly. This proactive approach ensures that flight operations are not disrupted.
By conducting meticulous and timely maintenance like this post-monsoon runway inspection, the airport demonstrates its commitment to both safety and operational continuity.CSMIA has worked closely with all key stakeholders, including airlines, to effectively schedule flights, thereby ensuring a smooth execution of the maintenance activities. The airport authorities have expressed their gratitude for the cooperation and support of passengers during this essential maintenance period.
CSMIA said this comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance represents another step in safeguarding the airport’s operational integrity. “The temporary closure on October 17 is a crucial component of these efforts to ensure safe, efficient, and seamless air travel experiences for all passengers.”
