Nissan GT-R consecrated into great sports car graveyard

  • 2024 Nissan GT-R T-spec Takumi costs $152,985, including destination
  • 2024 Nissan GT-R Skyline costs $132,985
  • The GT-R joins the Audi R8 and Acura NSX as other discontinued sports cars

The Nissan GT-R supercar won’t be back for the 2025 model year, Nissan confirmed on Friday. Godzilla dies after a 16-year model run, with production ending in Japan this October.

It will join a growing list of great sports cars sacrificed to market forces, including most recently the Audi R8 and the Acura NSX. It adds another plot in the cemetery of 2024’s discontinued sedans and coupes.

Before it bows into the automotive beyond, the GT-R will leave behind T-Spec Takumi and Skyline special editions arriving this summer. Those special editions honor the R35 GT-R launched in the U.S. for the 2009 model year and will be limited to 200 specially priced units.

Even though they were announced in March of this year, Nissan has now confirmed pricing for the limited-run models. Built off the GT-R Premium grade, the GT-R specials carry the slight design changes to other 2024 GT-Rs.

The Skyline Edition costs $132,985, including a $1,895 destination fee. It’s a nod to this GT-R’s predecessor, recognized internally and by fans as the R34, which itself was an evolution of the Skyline sedan that morphed into a sports car in the late ’80s. This special edition has the Bayside Blue exterior that was revived for the 2019 model to celebrate the GT-R’s 50th anniversary.

The GT-R T-spec Takumi edition will start at $152,985, including destination. Takumi is named after the people who assemble by hand the GT-R’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6. It has Midnight Purple paint with a Mori Green interior, as well as a red script of who assembled each car’s engine. The Takumi Edition has T-spec enhancements such as carbon-ceramic brakes, 20-inch Nismo Rays wheels, and wider front fenders, but the engine output remains the same at 565 hp and 467 lb-ft of torque.

The last Godzillas arrive on U.S. shores this summer.
