Porsche recalls some 718 and 911 models because of faulty center-lock wheel bolts

Porsche has issued a recall and a do not drive warning on certain 718 and 911 models because of concerns a wheel could fall off.

The issue has to do with some wheel bolts not being built to the correct specification, and as a result could fracture, something that could result in a loss of steering control or a wheel to become detached.

Porsche said drivers will immediately notice a vibration if there’s a fractured wheel bolt present.

Porsche’s production records show that only a small batch of vehicles are affected. According to the recall notice published by the NHTSA on Oct. 28 (recall campaign number 24V809000), there are 1,851 affected vehicles in the U.S., all of them from the 2024 model year.

The specific models include the 718 Cayman GT4 RS and 718 Spyder RS, and certain 911 models.

Porsche said it first became aware of several incidents related to the issue in September, and that it is still determining the cause.

The remedy involves a dealer checking the center lock wheel bolt and replacing any out of specification parts, if necessary.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out on Dec. 27, but anyone looking for further information can contact Porsche at 1-800-767-7243 or visit Porsche’s recall page.
