Rajasthan Expands Tourism through Tribal Circuits and War Museums, ET TravelWorld

Rajasthan is repositioning its tourism narrative by introducing new circuits and strategies designed to distribute tourism beyond its well-known destinations. The plan, driven by Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, seeks to turn every district into a tourism node, leveraging its heritage, tribal traditions, religious sites and emerging urban infrastructure.

Part of the renewed vision includes greater international participation at travel expos, highlighting Rajasthan’s unique cultural offerings—from folk art and architecture to its vibrant festivals and scenic landscapes. By targeting a wider audience, the state hopes to attract high-value travellers and bolster local economies.

To decentralise tourism, travel marts will be held in cities like Kota, creating platforms for less-explored areas. These are expected to open new revenue channels for local communities and reduce the pressure on established hubs like Jaipur and Udaipur.

Two major war museums are being developed in Jhunjhunu and parts of western Rajasthan, paying tribute to the region’s long-standing military traditions. These will serve as educational spaces, featuring curated archives and exhibitions.

Inclusion is a key theme, with a tribal tourism circuit in the works to showcase indigenous art, languages, and customs. This will be coupled with local enterprise promotion to ensure community benefit.

Amer town will undergo significant infrastructure improvements to accommodate more tourists while retaining its heritage charm. Similarly, Jaipur’s Govind Dev Ji temple will see phased enhancements to improve visitor comfort.

Augmented and virtual reality-powered light and sound shows are planned for historic sites to better engage younger tourists. The upcoming Teej festival will highlight women-led stalls and performances, promoting women’s entrepreneurship.

Additional efforts include training programmes for female tourist guides, redesigning the Chaura Rasta centre as a cultural hub, and prioritising cleanliness and hygiene in tourist areas.
