Refreshed 2025 Volkswagen Taos priced $1,075 more to $26,420

Volkswagen on Thursday announced pricing for the updated 2025 Taos small crossover, which arrives at U.S. dealerships later this year with a fresh design and more tech features.

With the mandatory $1,425 destination charge tacked on, the base 2025 Taos S starts at $26,420. That’s $1,075 than the 2024 model. However, all-wheel drive now adds just $1,700 to the bill, compared to $2,500 before.

The entry-level Taos S includes 17-inch wheels (18-inch wheels on all-wheel drive models), an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, WiFi connectivity, roof rails, and cloth upholstery in back or gray.

One step up from the base model, the Taos SE starts at $29,320. It adds wireless device charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-way power driver’s seat, two-tone upholstery in a mix of cloth and leatherette, and parking sensors. A panoramic glass roof is also available for $1,200, and an SE Black treatment brings blacked-out exterior trim for an extra $2,250.

The top Taos SEL costs $36,120 and is available only with all-wheel drive. This grade includes standard 19-inch wheels, an illuminated grille, leather upholstery, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Every Taos is still powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-4, but output rises 16 hp to 174 hp. Torque holds steady at 184 lb-ft. Every Taos now also uses a conventional 8-speed automatic transmission, whereas previously all-wheel drive models used a 7-speed dual-clutch automated gearbox.

The Taos’ competitors include the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, and Subaru Crosstrek. Both the Hyundai and Kia undercut the VW slightly in price in their cheapest front-wheel drive configurations. Subaru hasn’t released pricing for the 2025 Crosstrek, but the 2024 model came fairly close to the Taos’ base price while offering standard all-wheel drive.
