The 900-HP Dodge Charger Banshee Is Probably Dead

Stellantis is making major changes to its vehicle lineup, especially in the US. After former CEO Carlos Tavares announced an aggressive push toward electrification, the company has since scaled back those ambitious EV plans—canceling some projects and delaying many others.

Now, another domino may have fallen. According to Mopar Insiders, an internal source claims that the Dodge Charger SRT Daytona Banshee has been canceled. The high-performance 800-volt EV was rumored to have 900 horsepower and was expected to debut later this year or in early 2026.

Dodge hasn’t issued an official statement regarding the Charger Banshee, but a spokesperson told Mopar Insiders that the company “continues to reassess its product strategy.” Curiously, that’s similar to the statement Ram released when it canceled the electric Ram 1500 REV.

Although still unconfirmed, all signs point to the Charger Banshee being shelved. Alongside the canceled Ram 1500 EV, Stellantis has also scrapped plans for a Jeep Gladiator 4xe and has yet to announce any new EVs in the near future. Meanwhile, Ram has reintroduced the Hemi V-8 in its best-selling truck, and the latest Dodge Durango is now available exclusively with a Hemi.

With no electric Charger Banshee on the horizon, could a V-8-powered Charger make a comeback? It’s unclear—but we’re hopeful. Dodge recently launched the Charger Sixpack with a high-output inline-six, but there have been ongoing rumors about the Hemi V-8 returning.

In August, Dodge CEO Matt McAlear stated that the brand is leaning back into combustion-powered vehicles. When asked whether a V-8 could physically fit in the new Charger’s engine bay, he replied, “Don’t be surprised if it would fit.”

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
