The Dodge Charger Sixpack Sounds Better Than We Thought

The gas-powered Dodge Charger Daytona can’t come fast enough. The electric variant, launched last year, hasn’t exactly been the success the brand hoped for. Dealers were so insistent on needing a Charger their customers wanted, that Dodge bumped up plans to launch the straight-six-powered “Sixpack” to Summer 2025.

Well, we’re in the thick of Summer right now, and it seems Dodge is right on schedule. The company was caught filming a commercial in downtown Detroit, with a behind-the-scenes video from an onlooker published to Reddit on Monday.

The 19-second video shows a red, six-cylinder-powered Charger Daytona coupe pull up to a corner, before accelerating and drifting through an empty intersection. All the while, the car is being chased by a drone, presumably filming the entire sequence for an action shot to be featured in a future advertisement.

The drifting is cool and all, but we’re more interested in the noise. This is the first time the public has heard any real-world audio from the Hurricane-powered Charger Daytona. While it’s certainly no Hemi V-8, the twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine doesn’t sound bad, either. If anything, it’s more exciting than the EV’s synthesized exhaust sound.

Dodge has yet to release full details on the Charger Sixpack, but there are a few key details we know. It’ll be available with either 420 or 550 horsepower, with a choice between two doors or four doors. Those in the snow belt will be pleased to learn all-wheel drive will be available as an option.

With Summer well underway, it shouldn’t be long until the Sixpack starts hitting dealers. Theoretically, it should be cheaper than the EV, which starts at $61,590. Most estimates expect a starting price in the low $40,000 range—far more reasonable for this segment. It’ll be a much-needed boon to Dodge’s thin lineup, which consists only of the Charger, the Hornet, and the Durango.
