The Fast & Furious Roller Coaster Ride Cars Are Ripped Straight From The Movies

  • The four ride vehicles for the ‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’ roller coaster are the 1970 Dodge Charger, 1994 Toyota Supra, 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R, and 1997 Mazda RX-7.
  • The vehicles were taken from the first two Fast and Furious movies.
  • The ride is scheduled to open later this year at Universal Studios Hollywood.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first Fast & Furious film. The franchise spans 11 movies, with the 12th currently in development. Not only that, but Universal Studios is readying a new roller coaster themed after the movies. It’s called “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” and newly released photos show the roller coaster’s ride vehicles.

Joining Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger are Brian O’Connor’s 1994 Toyota Supra and 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R. The fourth car is Han Lue’s 1997 Mazda RX-7. The cars look like they were ripped right from the movie, like the ridiculous supercharger sticking through the hood of Dom’s Charger.

The cars have other unique touches from the movie, and working lights. The ride, which measures 4,100 feet long, reaches speeds up to 74 miles per hour and features a new 360-degree technology designed to recreate the feeling of drifting a car.

“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” is scheduled to open later this year at Universal Studios Hollywood, while Universal Orlando constructs its version. Universal recently announced that the 12th installment in the action franchise, called Fast Forever, will hit theaters a year from now—March 17, 2028.

Motor1’s Take: It’s wild that the first Fast & Furious films spawned a mega Hollywood franchise that spans a quarter-century and has earned billions of dollars at the box office. The new ride shows how popular the films still are, but it is telling that the ride vehicles are ripped from the first two movies, which focused more heavily on the cars than the action.
