You may not have heard of Capricorn Group, but you’ve likely seen its work. The company is a German outfit that supplies components to Formula 1, LMP1, World Endurance Championship, and other racing clients. The group just introduced its first supercar—and it’s unlike anything on the market currently.
It’s called the 01 Zagato, and it’s a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive enthusiast machine that features a carbon-fiber exterior crafted by the iconic coachbuilder with the same name. Capricorn Group doesn’t care about screens and cutting-edge technology—instead, this supercar is focused on creating an emotional driving experience, and the powertrain certainly helps.
Under the hood is a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 from Ford paired with a five-speed dogleg manual transmission that sends 888 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The supercar can sprint to 62 miles per hour in less than 3.0 seconds while on its way to a top speed of 224 miles per hour.
“The car is designed for the joy of driving, not for setting records,” says Capricorn Group Founder and CEO Robertino Wild.
The Zagato’s powertrain has several bespoke components, like its dry pump lubrication system, crankshaft, pistons, exhaust, and more. It even has a proprietary ECU tune and special ABS software. Carbon ceramic brakes and six-piston calipers from Brembo hide behind the Capricorn-designed 21-inch wheels, which are available in either a lightweight alloy or carbon fiber.
Inside, the driver has three analog gauges behind a leather-wrapped steering wheel that has just two buttons—start-stop and drive mode selector. That’s it. The cabin features fixed-position seats, along with an adjustable pedal box, wheel, and gear selector. Drivers can longitudinally adjust the shifter by 3.1 inches.
Almost the entire cabin is exposed carbon fiber, and Capricorn crafted the switchgear out of solid titanium and aluminum. The seats feature Connolly leather with Alcantara accents throughout, and customers will have the option to customize them.
The 01 Zagato lacks any wild wings or other aerodynamic elements. According to the company, it aimed to design a supercar with significant yet consistent levels of downforce, which the Zagato achieves through “internal airflow management and the design of the underfloor.”
The supercar also features front and rear diffusers and a subtle rear airfoil. What it lacks in wings, it makes up for with intakes and outlets.
Underneath Zagato’s stunning exterior is a carbon-fiber chassis, including the monocoque, crash members, and front and rear subframes. It has a double-wishbone, pushrod suspension with Bilstein front and rear springs and dampers.
Capricorn will begin building the 01 Zagato in the first half of 2026. It’s only building 19 examples, which won’t be available in the United States. The new supercar costs €2.95 million ($3.4 million at today’s exchange rate).
