The BMW 2002 is one of the most important models in the company’s history. It helped lay the foundation for many of the high-performance BMWs we love today, inspiring modern icons like the 2 Series and the M3. It was the ultimate driving machine before the “Ultimate Driving Machine.”
Thankfully, BMW hasn’t forgotten its roots. The company has just introduced the M2 Turbo Design Edition, a special model inspired by the iconic tricolor livery that adorned the original 2002 Turbo in 1974 and 1975—and it looks fantastic.
Finished in Alpine White, the M2 Turbo Design Edition features hand-painted BMW Motorsport stripes front and rear. The signature tricolor design wraps around the hood and lines the trunk lid, with an offset stripe running the length of the carbon fiber roof from front to back.
A black “Turbo” graphic spans the Power Dome on the hood, while a subtle carbon fiber spoiler accents the trunk lid. Standard equipment includes black M Dual-Spoke wheels, though buyers can opt for M Performance wheels finished in Matte Gold Bronze—like the ones pictured here (and frankly, the right choice).
Inside, the M2 Turbo Design Edition receives thoughtful updates to echo the exterior styling. The door sill plates feature “M2 turbo” script, and a not-so-subtle “Turbo” logo is positioned just ahead of the shifter. The M Sport seats come trimmed in Black Vernasca Leather with a signature tricolor M accent. For those seeking something even more aggressive, optional M Carbon bucket seats are also available—complete with the same tricolor detailing.
True to the spirit of the original 2002, which was offered with four- and five-speed manuals, the M2 Turbo Design Edition is available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. It’s paired with BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, making 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque—enough to launch the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds.
Of course, heritage has its price. The M2 Turbo Design Edition starts at $84,075, including a $1,175 destination charge—nearly $15,000 more than the base 2025 M2. BMW hasn’t said exactly how many it plans to produce, but the company confirms it will be offered in “extremely limited” quantities.
