We absolutely love tiny, fully functional engines. And we know Motor1 readers love them, too. YouTuber JohnnyQ90 definitely loves them; much of our tiny engine education has come from this channel. And now we have something new—an honest-to-goodness turbocharged four-cylinder.
The engine is an Enjomor GS-L4, a 32cc DOHC four-pot that, according to the StirlingKit website, can spin to 12,000 RPM. This one is further enhanced with an Enjomor turbocharger kit, which includes the turbo, a charge pipe, an exhaust pipe, and an air filter. The video is technically a review of the turbo, but we suggest but sticking around for the end to see (and hear) the teeny four-cylinder in action.
If a few things seem off about this turbocharger, you’re not wrong. There is no wastegate, the oil inlet feed isn’t in the best location, the turbo isn’t in a good spot, and the charge pipe could be straighter. As the turbo comes apart, we see more issues as well. The tolerances don’t look particularly tight, which is critical if you want to make any boost.
The components are 3D-printed in steel and aluminum, so the castings aren’t very smooth. And when everything is eventually installed, it appears to make very little boost, if any. We don’t even get any turbo whistle. But the exhaust note sure sounds good. It might even be better than the small flat-four we found back in 2023.
Perhaps we’re being too critical. This is a functional engine, but it’s still just a scale model. Its only purpose is to look good and sound cool, and it succeeds at both. We adore the little turbo on the side, spinning its heart out while the engine screams. It would be neat to hear a proper whoosh under throttle with a bypass valve venting upon release, but hey, it’s a start.
The engine is currently priced at $999, and the turbo kit is a $229 upgrade. Is this setup worth the price? Jump into the comments and let us know.
