IntrCity SmartBus has revealed new insights into the growing trend of solo women travelers in India, highlighting a significant shift in travel patterns and preferences. According to data from the platform, Gen Z (18-25) represents 40.7 per cent of all solo female travelers, underlining the increasing independence and confidence of younger women to explore the world on their own terms.

Spiritual tourism is emerging as a key trend among solo women travelers. Destinations like Ayodhya, Prayagraj, and Amritsar have witnessed a surge in visits, as more women seek meaningful and spiritual journeys. Amritsar, for instance, has attracted over 10,000 solo female travelers, reflecting a broader interest in destinations that offer spiritual enrichment and personal reflection.

Despite the rising interest in spiritual destinations, Goa continues to dominate as the top leisure destination for solo female travelers. Over 20,000 women travelled to Goa alone in 2024, solidifying its status as one of the most popular beach destinations for solo women travelers. The demand for Goa comes from across India, with a notable number of solo women travelers coming from cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bangalore, highlighting a growing demand for coastal getaways.

The data also reveals that solo female travelers are increasingly organized and thoughtful in their travel planning. Most book their journeys 2-5 days in advance, with weekend travelers often securing their seats 4-5 days ahead of time. This planning behaviour reflects a shift from spontaneous decisions to more deliberate and well-prepared travel experiences.

From 2022 to 2024, there has been a steady 3 per cent year-on-year increase in solo women travelers opting for bus travel, showcasing a consistent rise in the popularity of independent travel. This growth is attributed to improved safety measures, better connectivity, and a shift in societal attitudes toward solo travel for women. IntrCity SmartBus is committed to providing safe, convenient, and empowering travel options to support this trend and ensure women can travel freely and confidently across India.
