Ineos might have had strong sales in the first quarter of the year, but the company has plans to expand its lineup and increase those numbers. The Fusilier is expected to launch by 2028, while the company is considering smaller off-road models.
In an interview with Autocar at a Siemens event, Ineos CEO Lynn Calder revealed that the automaker has two more models planned after the Fusilier launches, with no plans to build “any other cars from the ground up, like we have with the Grenadier.” Instead, Ineos will focus on “technology sharing.”
Calder added that once the company has those plans set, it should be able to bring new models to market quickly. She added that Ineos has no plans to change the Grenadier’s wheelbase or “do a huge amount of work” on the platform. While that means we won’t see a smaller Grenadier, we “will see a smaller 4×4.”
It’s still unclear exactly who Ineos plans to partner with for future models. The company has allegedly held talks with China’s Chery, showing interest in Chery’s range-extended platform.
Ineos also aims to produce vehicles in the United States by the end of 2030. Despite the company’s strong start to the year, it faces several challenges that are affecting the entire automotive industry. Tariffs, changing regulations, and economic uncertainty do not help.
“During our short life, it’s more about what hasn’t happened,” Calder told the audience at the event. “It’s been a million times harder than I expected. But what I’ve learned is that you can’t plan for anything; you just have to be extremely agile.”
Motor1’s Take: It is no easy feat to start a new automaker from the ground up and develop your own platform. There have been endless opportunities for things to go wrong for Ineos, yet it is still here with plans to expand its lineup, which is quite commendable.
