In a bid to instill an appreciation for cultural heritage and tourist sites among students, the district education department has urged both government and private schools to establish Yuva Tourism Clubs for classes 7 to 12. .
The initiative by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India aims to familiarize students with local monuments, cultural sites, and tourist attractions, thereby enhancing their understanding of history and heritage.
“The Yuva Tourism Clubs aim to cultivate a deep appreciation for our country’s rich cultural heritage among students, inculcating their interest and passion for tourism. Many students these days are unaware about the heritage sites and their history. Thus, students will be taken to places like Lalbagh Palace, Kanch Mandir, Rajwada Palace and Krishnapura Chhatri,” said district education officer, Manglesh Vyas.
These clubs also envision nurturing young ambassadors for Indian tourism, intending to instill an awareness of tourism potential within India. Through visits to heritage sites in and around the city, students will be immersed in the historical significance of these places.
Apart from this the clubs will be formed to instill a sense of responsibility among the youth towards preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the country.
The schools have been asked to conduct weekly or fortnightly activities based on Tourism themed including drawing, painting, poster making and essay writing along with visits to tourist spots for classes 7 to 10. Meanwhile, for class 11 students, debate competition, group discussions and visits to cultural heritage sites and tourist sites are to be planned. Class 12 students have been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing the programme calendar for the tourism club and formation of the tourism club. Even the students in the city are upbeat about the formation of Yuva Tourism Club.
“I have keen interest in history and I aim to travel to different places. With this club being formed in the schools,we will be able to learn more about the heritage sites and the rich history that was behind construction,” said Vinay Parmar, a class 10th student, from Govt. Malhar Ashram School. TNN
