The redesigned 2024 Chevrolet Traverse three-row crossover SUV sports a more truck-like look, uses a new turbo-4 engine, and adopts the latest tech, including a massive 17.7-inch touchscreen. All of these upgrades come at a cost, of course. The new starting price of $38,995 represents a price hike of at least $3,080 over the 2023 Traverse.
The RS trim now tops the lineup at $55,595, including a $1,395 destination fee.
The LS with eight seats starts the bidding at $38,995. Every 2024 Traverse employs a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-4 that makes 315 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. The outgoing V-6 made 310 hp and 266 lb-ft, but the tow rating of 5,000 pounds remains the same. A new 8-speed automatic transmission replaces the 9-speed automatic, and front-wheel drive is still standard. Expect the $2,000 upcharge for all-wheel drive to carry over.
Every Traverse comes with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and automatic high-beam headlights. The brand’s Buckle to Drive feature that requires the driver and front passenger to be buckled before engaging gears is now complemented by a rear seat belt reminder for both second- and third-row passengers.
Standard features on the LS include a standard 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six USB ports, cloth upholstery on manual front seats, and an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster.
The premium aspirations of the Traverse are more apparent on the LT trim that costs $41,395. It has seven seats, including mid-row captain’s chairs with pushbutton sliders for easy access to the third row. It’s a modest upcharge that includes a wireless smartphone charger, power tailgate, and a power driver seat, and it opens up options such as GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system.
2024 Chevrolet Traverse Z71
The new-to-Traverse Z71 off-road trim bumps the price to $47,795, and brings the packaging details of Chevy’s pickup trucks and full-size SUVs to the family hauler. Standard with twin-clutch all-wheel drive, the Z71 stamps its unique lower grille with red recovery hooks, an aluminum skid plate, and a better approach angle, while all-terrain tires wrap around 18-inch wheels. It’s not just a cosmetic package: it has a wider track and a 1.0-inch higher ground clearance, features an off-road suspension and hill descent control, and comes with trailering equipment. More details on those items to come, we expect.
2024 Chevrolet Traverse RS
The sporty RS tops the lineup at $55,595. That’s in line with the top trims of other popular three-row crossover SUVs such as the Kia Telluride SX-Prestige and the new Toyota Grand Highlander. It rides on 22-inch black wheels and comes with heated seats covered in leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a power-folding third row, a panoramic sunroof, and Super Cruise.
The 2024 Chevy Traverse goes on sale this quarter.
An earlier version of this story had the base trim at $39,495; Chevy confirmed the 2024 Traverse starts at $38,995, including destination.
