2025 Audi A5 reaches dealerships soon at $48,995

Audi on Monday confirmed U.S. launch timing and a base price for the redesigned 2025 A5, which replaces both the previous-generation A5 and the A4 as part of a reshuffling of the automaker’s lineup.

The 2025 Audi A5 is expected to reach dealerships in the second quarter with a base price of $48,995 including the mandatory $1,295 destination fee. All prices will be revealed closer to launch, but even that base price is about $2,000 dearer than that of the 2024 Audi A5. However, the 2025 model takes on a different—and expanded—role in the lineup.

Available in a single four-door liftback body style in the U.S., the redesigned A5 replaces the A4 compact sedan that previously anchored the lower end of the automaker’s lineup, as well as the outgoing A5 Sportback. The change also means the end of the A5 coupe and convertible, and while some markets will get an A5 Avant wagon, it isn’t coming to the U.S.

The new A5 is 2.6 inches longer, 0.5 inch of wider, and 1.6 inches taller than the outgoing A4, with a 2.8-inch-longer wheelbase. It looks like a sedan, but the rear glass and deck lid open as one piece, meaning it’s technically a hatchback. Audi promises 22.6 cubic feet of cargo space with this configuration, expanding to 36.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

The base A5 has a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine rated at 268 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. A sportier S5 model will also be available, with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 producing 362 hp and 406 lb-ft, as well as lowered suspension with optional adaptive damping. A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive are mandatory with either powertrain.

Based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) that will underpin the all of the automaker’s future combustion models, the 2025 A5 features a more sophisticated electrical architecture that will allow for more software-based features, Audi claims. They’ll be accessed via a dashboard display consisting of an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. A head-up display will be available as well, along with a 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Many of these same features are also available in crossover form on the 2025 Audi Q5, which shares the A5’s PPC architecture. Audi had planned for these odd-numbered models to keep their combustion powertrains and be sold alongside even-numbered EVs, but said earlier this month that it was reversing course on that naming scheme.
