He had also finished second at the 2022 Games, becoming the first Indian to win back-to-back Commonwealth Games medals in the event. His opening jump of 8.03m put him in third place behind Scotland’s Stephen McKenzie and Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle, who both jumped 8.08m.Sreeshankar briefly moved into the lead with his 8.09m effort, but Gayle responded with a winning jump of 8.15m to take the gold. McKenzie settled for bronze with 8.08m, while India’s Lokesh Sathyanathan finished fifth with a best jump of 7.97m.
India created history in para athletics with a one-two finish in the men’s 100m T47 event for athletes with upper-limb impairments.Gavit won the gold medal after clocking a Games record time of 10.71 seconds. Mohammed Basil Morssinganakathi finished second with a season-best 10.83 seconds to claim silver. It was India’s third gold medal of the Games after Mirabai Chanu won the women’s 48kg weightlifting title and Sharmila Dhankar claimed gold in the women’s shot put F57 event.
