Acura is 40 years old today. The brand launched in the United States on March 27, 1986, with the Legend and Integra, and to celebrate that milestone, Acura built a tribute Integra that honors its first race car.
The Acura Integra 40 Race, built by Honda Racing Corporation US, is based on a first-generation Integra and features an assortment of modifications. Under the hood is the original 1.6-liter four-cylinder D16A1 engine, rebuilt, and the five-speed manual transmission. It originally produced 113 horsepower.
Other upgrades to the car include a Monsoon ECU, a coil-on-plug conversion, a stainless long-tube header, a custom Boral exhaust, and a Torsen-type limited-slip differential. It has new Tein coilovers, an adjustable Panhard bar, and a manual steering rack.
It has Carbotech performance brake pads, stainless braided brake lines, and a manual brake conversion. The brakes are hidden behind Mugen 14-inch wheels wrapped in Yokohama ADVAN-A050 semi-slick tires.
Inside, the Acura features a custom Blackbird Fabworx roll cage, OMP racing seats, and six-point endurance harnesses. It wears Rio Red Metallic paint on the outside.
The Acura Integra 40 Racer will make its debut at the 51st Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, which is scheduled for April 17–19.
Motor1’s Take: It’s hard to believe Acura is already 40 years old. It was the first Japanese luxury brand to launch in the United States, and has introduced some legendary vehicles, the NSX. We are excited to see what Acura has to offer over the next 40 years, and beyond.
