GMC Gave the Hummer EV Exactly What It Needed: More Power

It’s hard to believe the GMC Hummer EV is already a few years old. GMC isn’t quite ready to give the truck and SUV trims a proper mid-cycle refresh, but these rigs roll into 2026 with some notable changes. You won’t see them per se, unless you identify Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte as the new exterior colors. But you might hear tortured tires from the truck as it rips to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds.

Yes, GMC gave the Hummer EV a power boost. To be more specific, the 2026 Hummer EV 3X Pickup gets 1,160 horsepower—160 more than the current model. A GMC spokesperson confirmed the extra power is exclusive to the truck, accomplished through an available 24-module battery and an “optimization of software and propulsion calibration,” among other things.

The result is a seriously quick machine. The sub 3.0-second run to 60 mph lines up with cars like the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Corvette Z06. It’s a good thing the ZR1 is here, otherwise this multi-ton truck would be GM’s quickest vehicle.

There are other updates for 2026. A new Carbon Fiber Edition comes to both the truck and SUV, featuring special black wheels with all-terrain tires, carbon fiber inserts for the mirror caps and skid plate, black badges, and on the SUV, a matching black spare wheel. It’s only offered in Magnus Gray Matte for the exterior, and it’ll be a limited-production trim. Exactly how many will be built? GMC isn’t sharing that info just yet.

There’s also an update that applies to older Hummer EVs as well as new ones. An updated CrabWalk mode called King Crab will allow the rear-wheel steering to engage and turn “significantly faster.” It’s designed to enhance maneuverability in tight off-road spaces, and it works separately from the CrabWalk. It’s offered on all 2026 models, but an over-the-air update later this year will bring it to 2022-2025 models as well.

In addition, GMC has tweaked the Hummer EV’s suspension for better ride quality. Bidirectional charging lets Hummer EVs charge other vehicles or power a home when equipped with the requisite gear. Inside, it’s business as usual with the 13.4-inch center screen and a litany of tech, including Google Built-In.

“The refreshed Hummer EV enhances an already amazing vehicle with new software innovations and forward-thinking design,” said GMC Hummer EV Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser. “From the start, we aimed to provide Hummer EV owners with over-the-air software updates. All 2026 Hummer EV owners will have access to our latest software going forward, allowing new features to be introduced throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.”

Pricing will be announced later this year when 2026 models head to dealerships.
