Chevrolet already has a wide range of options for C8 Corvette shoppers—from the base car on up to the wild ZR1X. One of the best versions, however, hasn’t even arrived yet: the Corvette Grand Sport.
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer. The upcoming 2027 Corvette Grand Sport will likely make its debut later this year, and rumor has it that it will be packing a seriously beefy engine. Instagram user @njp_moto may have spotted one out and about in California, saying that the C8 in question sounded nothing like anything in the current lineup.
Chevrolet will reportedly deploy a 6.7-liter V8 for the next Grand Sport. That’s 409 cubic inches of what we can likely assume will be non-hybridized fury (although, you never know). The Grand Sport has long been the purest evolution of a driver’s car in the Corvette family.
What makes the strongest case for the C8 spotted above to actually be a Grand Sport is its colorway. Yes, you can see a familiar fender stripe. More importantly, however, is that blue hue. According to GM Authority, it’s very specifically Admiral Blue.
Just 1,000 examples of the C4 Corvette Grand Sport were built. All of them left the factory wearing Admiral Blue. Later, when the C7 Grand Sport arrived, the launch color was Admiral Blue.
After watching the video above, it appears Chevrolet will bring back the Grand Sport in that familiar color. Here’s hoping.
Motor1’s Take: The arrival of a Grand Sport is a fantastic addition to the Corvette lineup. Like Porsche’s GTS model, it strikes a strong balance between the overt power of the upper echelons of the lineup and offers a more engaging driving experience than the base models.
Painting it in Admiral Blue is merely a cherry on top of what should prove to be a great variation on the C8 mission statement.
